Why ANYONE willingly takes this job, which RUINS political careers, is beyond me. Alas, it may shock you to learn that Senator Britt did not prove equal to the challenge.<div><br /></div><div>I watched about 30 seconds of Senator Britt before I gave up, because I've already seen enough high school theatre in my life. (Apologies for the comparison, every high school theatre in history.) Since last night, I've seen a few more clips and learned a few things.<div><br /></div><div>From the histrionics, to the Handmaid's Tale garb, to the utter lies, to the fake compassion, her speech was entirely cringey throughout. When it started, my initial reaction was to shout out, "They put her in a kitchen!?!" Of course they did. They hate women.</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, many people have had very funny takes on the debacle, so I thought I'd point you to some of them.</div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/3/8/2228248/-Katie-Britt-is-the-latest-Republican-to-turn-a-SOTU-response-into-comedy-gold?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=top_news_slot_1&pm_medium=web"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">Katie Britt is the latest Republican to turn a SOTU response into comedy gold</span></a></div><div><span style="color: #2b00fe;"><br /></span></div><div><a href="https://www.meidastouch.com/news/even-maga-hated-katie-britts-speech"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">Even MAGA Hated Katie Britt's Speech</span></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Go check them out. I wish I was as clever as many of these folk. But at least I'm more clever than anyone involved in the "rebuttal".</div><div><br /></div></div>Ipecachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34835224.post-20276318515352105492024-03-08T16:31:00.001-05:002024-03-08T16:31:38.821-05:00Don't fall for thisA group of political "independents" who want to run a third party candidate for President, <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/no-labels-third-party-presidential-race_n_65eb52d7e4b0c77c741688bc"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">voted today</span></a> to go forward with a nomination.<br /><div><br /></div><div>This group, called No Labels, purports to be politically centrist and promote bi-partisanship. Sounds reasonable. But some of the people involved, and those they've looked at for their Presidential candidate, expose that lie -- people like Joe Lieberman, Joe Manchin, Nikki Haley, Larry Hogan, and Chris Christie. What do those folk have in common? None of them are centrist, and most are very conservative. Senator Joe Manchin is technically a Democrat, but during the first two years of Biden's term he held up dozens of progressive initiatives and has scuttled myriad vitally-needed climate change bills.</div><div><br /></div><div>There is some debate over the impact of a No Labels candidate on the election. They clearly won't win, but they could throw key races. For example, the No Labels candidate could be an option for Republicans and Independents who don't like Trump and might otherwise vote for President Biden. This could result in Trump taking states that he would not otherwise, if the No Labels candidate runs, despite No Labels frequent refrain that they don't want to inadvertently bring Trump back into power.</div><div><br /></div><div>So why are they not taking off this election cycle, other than a potentially fatal case of stupidity? As usual, <a href="https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/06/no-labels-exposed-heres-a-list-of-donors-funding-its-effort-to-disrupt-the-2024-race/"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">follow the money</span></a>:</div><div></div><blockquote><div><b style="background-color: #d9ead3;">The most discussed potential candidate for No Labels has been Manchin, who has declined to say whether he would participate in this effort. Poll data suggesting a No Labels campaign would hurt Biden more than Trump—as well as the conservative bent of the few previously known funders of the group, such as billionaire Harlan Crow, the billionaire benefactor of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and a collector of Nazi memorabilia—has prompted Democratic strategists to speculate that this endeavor is a not-too-secret project to elect Trump or another Republican. Prominent Democratic operatives and Never-Trump Republicans recently met privately in Washington, DC, to discuss how best to counter a No Labels presidential campaign. </b></div><div></div></blockquote><div>Because it's a dark money organization, it's impossible to identify all of its donors. But one is Harlan Crow, and I think that says it all. He's not promoting candidates to promote progressive (or even centrist) ideas and policies. He's trying to manipulate the system.<br /><br />I long ago concluded that No Labels is not a serious political party, but an attempt to throw the election to Trump and put the United States under the control of a fascist, white Christian Nationalist dictatorship.</div><div><br /></div><div>Don't let them.</div><div><br /></div>Ipecachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34835224.post-25746067506379609282024-02-27T22:24:00.005-05:002024-02-27T22:24:57.888-05:00Hardware Wars<p>I think about this every few years, but I haven't seen it in decades.</p><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WUDEUQMCyKE?si=GXFS_NsRn2egJ6jj" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div>This was made in 1978 on 16mm film.</div><div><br /></div><div>My biggest question is how the heck did they get Disney Legend, Paul Frees, to narrate?</div><div><br /></div>Ipecachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34835224.post-7881135555409459922024-02-26T14:50:00.001-05:002024-02-26T14:50:28.530-05:00A stable genius at CPAC<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Trump's weekend at CPAC in 101 seconds. <a href="https://t.co/eMQEvkRDjY">pic.twitter.com/eMQEvkRDjY</a></p>— The Lincoln Project (@ProjectLincoln) <a href="https://twitter.com/ProjectLincoln/status/1761896356074160444?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 25, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Trump got that idea from the Nazis.</p><p>As always with Republicans, the whole thing is projection; Trump tried to steal the election and failed. Any time he starts a story like that, he's lying. Also, see his first tell above.<br /><br />In the vein of things that Trump clearly lied about is this truly inspiring story from a speech he gave last weekend.<br /><blockquote><b style="background-color: #d9ead3;">“A general, who’s a fantastic general, actually said to me, ‘Sir, I’ve been on the battlefield. Men have gone down on my left and on my right. I stood on hills where soldiers were killed. But I believe the bravest thing I’ve ever seen was the night you went on to that stage with Hillary Clinton, after what happened. And then that woman asked you the first question about it.’ And I said, locker room talk! It’s locker talk! What the hell?! What are you talking … Locker room talk!”</b></blockquote><div>An "actual" fantastic General compared Trump going onto a debate stage during the 2016 campaign and giving an obvious bullshit excuse for the "grab them by the pussy" scandal, to soldiers dying on the battlefield. Not only did he compare those two things, but what Trump did was the "bravest thing I've ever seen."</div><div><br /></div><div>Let me repeat that. </div><div><br /></div><div>According to Trump, a soldier told him that Trump answering a question from Hillary Clinton was more brave than soldiers who gave their lives in combat. Uh huh.</div><div><br /></div><div>Trump never sacrificed nor served. His complete contempt and disrespect for anyone who has served is frequently made glaringly obvious. He was the Commander in Chief for millions of people, and still can't even speak of them with any gratitude or respect. What a shitshow of a person.</div><div><br /></div><div>I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want to see the actual video, it's in <a href="https://www.wonkette.com/p/and-the-men-had-tears-in-their-eyes"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">this story</span></a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>Ipecachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34835224.post-80642569967489712632023-12-15T11:17:00.003-05:002023-12-15T11:17:57.684-05:00Thoughts and Prayers<p>Yesterday was the 11th anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.</p><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/M876_FfJ3MQ?si=-uygn5RpVHKKGtBK" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div>Ipecachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34835224.post-60186965475438930882023-12-13T17:00:00.001-05:002023-12-15T11:39:14.972-05:00Andre BraugherThis death hit me harder than most celebrity deaths. I'm a big fan of the movie <i>Glory</i>, Braugher's first film, where he plays Thomas Searles, the freeman and friend of Matthew Broderick's Colonel Shaw. It's not a huge role, but Braugher makes a big impression with a nuanced, heartbreaking portrayal of a man giving up his relatively comfortable existence to fight for freedom. <div><br /></div><div>During the pandemic, I binge-watched the sitcom <i>Brooklyn Nine-Nine</i>, then re-watched the entire series with Carol, and then again with Ben. <i>B99 </i>is Michael Schur's funniest show, and it's fantastic, filled with fun characters in a workplace comedy. Andre Braugher, playing the black, gay, stern, wonderful Brooklyn precinct captain, Raymond Holt, is an absolute joy in the show.</div><div><br /></div><div>Here's one of my favorite cold-opens.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tO9WuPX_is0?si=mdcb_20L1xnZ9eAa" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div>By all accounts Braugher was a smart, thoughtful, kind, and obviously talented person. No. Alrighty then.<p>This week on "God, these people are tedious and stupid and horrible and tedious" is Senator (R-F'ing Moron) Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. For months, Senator Tommy has single-handedly held up hundreds of military promotions to pressure the Armed Forces to change their position on allowing military personnel to travel out of state for medical care. This has actually harmed America's military and those serving in numerous ways. (I won't even go into the stupid rules of the Senate that allow one guy to do this.)</p><p>The military's completely reasonable position is that if you're stationed in bum-fuck, red state, you might not have access to the kind of healthcare you need, so the military allows you to travel out of state. Senator Tommy doesn't like that pregnant people might travel out of Gilead to get an abortion in an actually free, blue state.</p><p>Here is Senator Tommy recently on Fox News:</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Tuberville says that he is blocking promotions because women in the military may try to get abortions after birth under the current policy. <a href="https://t.co/30pKpTt6yP">pic.twitter.com/30pKpTt6yP</a></p>— Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) <a href="https://twitter.com/RonFilipkowski/status/1725271716560097467?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 16, 2023</a></blockquote><p>Here's the quote:</p><p></p><blockquote><b style="background-color: #d9ead3;">“You know, it’s been rape, incest, or health of the mom, but we asked in one of our hearings, you know, what month are you going to go by for the abortion? They couldn’t tell us whether it was abortion after birth."</b></blockquote><p></p><p>Of course, this idea isn't unique to this dipshit. In America, in the 21st century, the Republican party actually "believes" that Democrats want to allow abortions after birth and that this is a thing that happens.</p><p>If you have even a toe in reality, you know that after birth abortions are NOT A THING. An after birth abortion would actually be considered MURDER and does not happen anywhere in America. In fact, even third trimester abortions are very rare and happen ONLY when there is a medical necessity, and are almost universally considered a tragedy because the pregnancy was WANTED.
