Just a few thoughts.
- Biden did quite well. He seemed intelligent, informed and displayed passion at appropriate times. I haven't paid much attention to him over the years and was happy with his performance. Especially when he pointed out that America has only 3% of the world's energy supplies. We can't drill our way out of this hole.
- Palin also did well, although I didn't believe half the things she said. But if I have to hear her ridiculous, cornpone, ah shucks, voice and accent for the next four years, I swear we're moving to England. God I hate the way she talks. I really, really, hate the way she talks.
- I'm sorry Biden felt he had to throw gay marriage under the bus and actually agree with Palin on the issue. Strong support for equal civil rights, but very clearly against gay marriage.
- Every time Biden mentioned the horrible problems of the past eight years, Palin would chide him for looking backwards, not forward. I guess I'd do that too if my party was responsible for screwing things up this badly. It's a stupid meme, though, so I don't think it will do very well.
- Okay, here's a hint. If you have to call yourself a "maverick", you ain't one. It's like "party animal", a name you want other people to call you. As a self-imposed moniker, maverick just means you think you're cool when you aren't.
So that's it. This will probably reassure some Republicans that Palin isn't a complete disaster so it may put a bandage on that open wound. The good news is that this may encourage her handlers to let Palin out of the cage. So she's bound to say more stupid things in the next few weeks.

She did very well at not answering questions and saying what they gave her to say. She was very well rehearsed. I also became very tired of her forced folkseyness, and used the term "aw, shucks" as well when bitching about it. Sadly, this will likely appeal to the mouth-breathers that also believe that the Earth is only 6000 years old.
I've liked Biden for years, and thought he did a good job. He could have been a bit more aggressive, but I loved near the end when he debunked the whole claim of "maverick" with regard to McCain.
Palin just kept saying the same lies over and over again, figuring (probably accurately) that people who watch Fox News will believe her through repetition. Obama's plan makes it clear that taxes will not be raised for the VAST majority of people, but McCain/Palin just keep saying he's going to raise taxes because that's what the Republican base is most afraid of. Other than brown people.
Didja notice that Bristol was conspicuously absent during the love-fest at the end?
Of course, none of this matters, since on October 14th, the mother ship will be arriving to spread the message of love and peace. So we've got that going for us.
I missed the first part of the debate so I apparently missed the points about the "white flag" and Biden coming out against gay marriage. What I saw (and heard as I heard a few minutes on the radio driving home and, believe me, it is a different experience) made me think Biden wiped the floor with Palin. Biden was sharp, precise, articulate while Palin was vague, inarticulate and obviously reciting canned answers. Ahitan may well be write about Palin's appeal but I couldn't help thinking that just on a presentation basis, if one was thinking about Biden or Palin potentially sitting down with Putin (of course, in a McCain administration, there would be no diplomacy), it was a mismatch. Biden looked like a president you would see in a movie while Palin looked like someone who would be president in some sort of Coen Brothers parody. I can't imagine how someone, no matter how partisan, could really see Palin as being a potential president. But I'm probably giving the populace too much credit.
