And I had such hopes for him . . .

As promised, here is the "More to Follow".

The clip is last night's Daily Show. John Oliver visited the Morristown, NJ, Teabaggery Party and did the usual hilarious patter with the nutjobs, er, I mean patriots.

The (balding?) (baldish?), okay, bald dude with the beard and the "Spread Your Own Wealth Around" sign is someone I know! He's Joseph, a frequent commenter here and one of my friends. I am now two degrees separated from Jon Stewart!

Of course I'm now considering whether I should increase the number of degrees I am separated from Joseph. :-)

Say the word and I'll just stop showing up to Babycon. And you say conservatives are intolerant...

Unfortunately, they had cut off the cameras before I could give a complete response to the question of taxation without representation. Fortunately, through the miracle of modern technology, I was able to complete my thoughts over on YouTube.

Intolerant? Because I made a joke? When you were at the rally, didn't you notice that there were a ton of crazies around you? These type of events, on the right or the left, tend to draw the extremists.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the story.

Joe,

"Taxation without representation" was a teabaggers' argument I wasn't aware of until I saw your clip on the Daily Show. I just watched your video but I still don't get your point.

In a representative Democracy, the Government makes decisions that people disagree with ALL THE TIME. While I initially supported the invasion of Iraq, I didn't support it once it became clear that we had no strategy once we took over, Iraq wasn't producing WMD's, and Iraq was not involved in 9/11. At some point I opposed most of the govnerment's actions towards Iraq.

Was I not represented in the govt? Of course I was. I just had to make my views known and keep voting for candidates I approved. Eventually, enough people came to agree and supported a new President.

I don't recall any federal goons busting up the teabag protests. I didn't see anyone silencing your voice. I just don't get your point with this.

I saw a lot of the tea bagging coverage and I thought it was more of a "hate on the Democrats" and even that message was not a coherent one.
I saw anti-gay and anti-immigration as well as "We are turning into socialists!"
I believe in freedom of speech, even unpopular speech, but I saw very little that was persuasive to the tea baggers causes.
I do enjoy intelligent speech, but not intelligent design.

Unless we were there we wouldn't know what was really going on. If all we did was watch on tv then what we recieved over the tube was
what the news organization wanted us to see. Certainly you can't believe we are getting the straight scoop from the media. It only makes sense that they those who make a good story or those who make the opposite side look foolish
get airtime.

And for the record, the term "tea bagging", aside from being vulgar, is indicative of the lack of respect the media has for anything remotely approaching criticism of the Democrats or Obama.

Where were clever innuendos when the anarchists were burning cars and destroying storefronts in Seattle and other places?

Tea bagging was their term for their protest. I watched Fox news and that is what they called it.
