So I pick it up on Saturday morning and am highly disturbed to find it in the state below. [click to embiggen]

That's rice. Of course my first thought was that the little white things were maggots or eggs but it seemed to actually be rice. (No, we didn't taste it to make sure.) There was some rice also on the outside of the trash can.
What's weird is that we didn't have any rice in our trash. What's perhaps even more weird is how evenly the rice is spread on the inside of the can. What or who the heck could or would do that? It's like someone was desperate to make a huge batch of rice and couldn't find a suitable container so they used our trash can.
I would be pleased to hear any suggestions to explain this. Good luck. Like Hoffa or the Roanoke Colony, this may be a mystery for the ages.
