Evolution is the fundamental, underlying principle of all biology. You cannot understand biology without an understanding of evolution. And yet only 10% of American states explicitly mention evolution in their school curriculum.
Americans are doomed to scientific irrelevancy if this kind of politicization of scientific truth is not stopped.
