Except that they haven't. Despite initial reports that the burning was canceled, now they're conditioning it on the "Ground Zero Mosque" not being built. Oy.
Of course, the two are not in any way equivalent, no matter what the majority of moronic, unAmerican right wing commentators would have you believe. So conditioning one upon another is like telling someone you'll stop punching them in the face if they'll stop complaining about you punching them in the face.
And if the situation wasn't idiotic enough, someone with more money than brains, and more hair than a barbership owned by a hoarder, has decided to step in and try to take away the ball so the kids won't fight over it. Yes, Donald Trump is offering a premium price for the controversial site.
"I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation that is destined, in my opinion, to only get worse," he wrote.
Trump further stipulated, as part of the offer, that if a mosque is to be built, "it would be located at least five blocks further from the World Trade Center site."Yes! That's just what this situation needed! A pompous rich asshole who thinks that screwing over the Muslims who want to build the center is a just way to resolve the situation. Nice going, dick.
