Rush Limbaugh didn't like this.
LIMBAUGH: What I don’t like about this is the assumption that we are no good! The premise that we are no good! Yes that’s true. We really stink. We have to work a lot harder to become better people. We are going to really have to work harder to become better than we are. Who are they to castigate all the rest of us?! If they want to catagorize some of us as not good enough, fine and dandy! But who are they? Why do we have to listen to these people tell us we’re not as good as we can be? What message are we supposed to hear here? What’s the message that we have to – we’re all ready for improvement? The GOP is supposed to capitulate? That’s how we get along with everybody?Uh, hasn't Rush heard of Christianity? Does Original Sin ring a bell?
The idea that we're no good, that we really stink, is THE BASIC TENET OF CHRISTIANITY. We suck so bad that only through blind fealty to Jesus can we even hope to NOT BE TORTURED FOR ETERNITY. That's how bad Christians think we are.
I presume Rush believes we don't have to listen to Christians either.

I read this several times. I think Rush also believes that we're no good (of course, I didn't hear it on the radio and couldn't hear if he injected any sarcasm to his words). His main problem is with people from Obama's party telling us we're no good ("Who are they....?").
In any case, I (unlike SOME from the right) am not blinded by an automatic hatred for Democrats so as to quickly dismiss anything they say (the same type of people immediately reject anything the Right has to say for the same reason).
From what I gather, Obama gave a good speech (although I can't bring myself to listen to anything he has to say-in this case, I should've listened). Still, I'm thinking Rush was venting in a partisan attack which is something he is wont to do (this is why I don't listen to him all that much).
For what it's worth, I also believe we need to strive to be better people.
