Priorities, Schmiorities

The Republican food and farm bill:
Essential programs on the chopping block include the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Commodity Supplemental Food programs, which both help low-income people get nutritional food. Hundreds of thousands of people will be cut from the programs if House Republicans get their way. WIC “provides healthy foods like milk, eggs and infant formula to about 9 million poor mothers and pregnant women and their children,” and would absorb a $868 million cut under the GOP bill, which falls $1.3 billion short of what’s needed to adequately fund the program with food prices on the rise.
The GOP measure also calls for cuts to food safety programs, a childhood obesity initiative backed by First Lady Michele Obama, and food aid for senior citizens.
As long as the rich get their tax cuts, then screw you women, children, infants and old people.

If you vote Republican, you need to ask yourself if these are also your priorities.

Here's how it works (I think), based on remarks I've heard from super-right wing co-workers who speak alternately about having to sell various possessions on Craigslist so they can make their mortgage payments and cover their medical bills:

These people have little to hang onto beyond the illusion that they, themselves (being white) are the "salt of the earth" "entrepreneurial" class (as defined by Ayn Rand) that earns every penny "by the sweat of their brow" "with no government handouts" and therefore "should not have to give away THEIR hard-earned pay" to "people who don't pull their share of the load." Any day now, their greatness and earning potential will be recognized by management; they will get that big-ass raise and promotion, and it is only the Republican party that will protect them from the unwashed hordes who will crowd the gates of their country-club communities, dirty hands extended, jabbering in some non-English language, demanding free money -- money that would have paid for their daughters' weddings and their grandchildren's educations!

What a sad scenario. Makes me wanna cry. (Undt I did!)
