I've been to dozens of midnight movies. The most recent was HP7 part 1. The next will be The Hobbit. While familiar with the mechanics, it's always a bit stressful until you're in your seat and you know you're not consigned to the front row.
I resolved to arrive at HP7 part 2 at 9pm. The Regal Germantown has seven midnight showings and they were selling out when I got my tickets on Monday. So, since Rachel is working until 10pm, I picked up her boyfriend, Tim, and we arrived just after 9pm, expecting a long line.
The parking lot was half full; a good sign. The lobby was mostly empty. Cool. We went to the ticket takers and could see many, many people down the hall queued outside the theatres. Ah, okay. There's where we wait. Still. Not too bad.
"Theatre 9, go on in," says the ticket guy.
"Huh?" we cleverly rejoin.
"Just go straight into the theatre."
So we walk past hundreds of people waiting in line for other theatres and walk into A COMPLETELY EMPTY THEATRE. Turns out they cancelled the 9:30 showing of The Zookeeper. (I know, what a loss) to free up the theatre.
We got the pick of literally any seat. We sat exactly where we wanted. Woo hoo!
And now we wait.
Awesome.
See you on the other side.
