Texas Governor and Republican Presidential candidate, Rick Perry, famously asked Texans to pray for rain a couple of months ago to fight the drought that’s devastating his state. This prayer predictably failed. And now Texas is actually ON FIRE.
But that’s okay, because Rick Perry is an awesome Governor who presided over the “Texas miracle”, creating thousands of low-paying jobs without benefits and using Federal stimulus dollars to balance the Texas budget. Oh, and incidentally, he slashed funding for Texas firefighters.
As wildfires destroy over 700 homes, Texas may regret the fact that, under Gov. Rick Perry (R), it cut funding for volunteer fire departments by 75 percent this year. The “majority of Texas is protected by volunteer fire departments” with 879 volunteer departments and only 114 paid departments. Link
Oops. Better get back to praying, Rick, because without firefighters, you’re state is pretty much screwed.
