Hank Williams, Jr. is ready for some overblown rhetoric!
In an interview Monday morning on Fox News' "Fox & Friends,'' Williams said of Obama's outing on the links with House Speaker John Boehner: "It'd be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu.''
Asked to clarify, Williams said: "They're the enemy,'' adding that by "they'' he meant Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Link
When his remarks predictably drew fire, including the removal of his rendition of “Are you ready for some football?” on ESPN’s Monday Night Football,” Williams clarified:
"Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me - how ludicrous that pairing was."Yes, the President of the United States and the Speaker of House golfing together is totally unexpected and crazy! Who would ever expect those two to golf together?!?
He continues, "They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”And I’m demonstrating that respect by calling the President a Nazi.
Williams Jr. adds, "Every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists – but there’s never a backlash – no outrage to those comparisons… Working class people are hurting – and it doesn’t seem like anybody cares. When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job – it makes a whole lot of us angry. Something has to change. The policies have to change.”
So stop acting like racists and extremists and people will stop painting you that way. Duh.
Seriously, it would be easier to take the Tea Party seriously when they complain about joblessness and the recession if they didn’t support policies that only favor the rich and corporations. They’re against everything that would help the poor and middle class and create new jobs while supporting corporate welfare, union-busting, low taxes for the rich, and emasculating government services and the social safety net.
If you really want to help working class people, you sure as hell shouldn’t be supporting the Republicans.
