There's something about being the Republican front-runner that brings out the asinine in a person. Here's current "it" guy Newt Gingrich:
“This is something that no liberal wants to deal with,” Gingrich said. “Core policies of protecting unionization and bureaucratization against children in the poorest neighborhoods, crippling them by putting them in schools that fail has done more to create income inequality in the United States than any other single policy. It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in, first of all, child laws, which are truly stupid.” [...]
“Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.” Link
Yes, he's really advocating that getting rid of child labor laws and putting children to work is a good solution to the problems of poor neighborhoods and poor schools. (Note that he doesn't talk about putting rich kids to work). Apparently the solution to twenty-first century problems is the nineteenth century!
Here's an idea. Why not instead work to eradicate poverty, make our schools safe, pay our janitors a good wage, and then everyone will be better off without using our children as a labor force.
Then, at the "Family Forum" yesterday, Newt said this:
Of course, despite all of the above, the FOUNDERS created a secular country. Newt really seems to be a terrible historian.
Keep in mind that this guy is considered the INTELLECTUAL GIANT of the Republican field.

Then, at the "Family Forum" yesterday, Newt said this:
“A country that has been now since 1963 relentlessly in the courts driving God out of public life shouldn’t be surprised at all the problems we have. Because we’ve in fact attempted to create a secular country, which I think is frankly a nightmare.” LinkYes, God is completely absent from public life. We certainly no longer have "In God We Trust" on our currency, we don't open Congress with a prayer, politicians don't invoke God at every opportunity, and neither of our two parties legislates from the Bible. Yes, we atheists have won! And, as a side benefit, created a nightmare!
Of course, despite all of the above, the FOUNDERS created a secular country. Newt really seems to be a terrible historian.
Keep in mind that this guy is considered the INTELLECTUAL GIANT of the Republican field.
Why would anyone be voting for these clowns?
