Oil? Yes! Cancer screenings and vaccinations? No!

In 2007, a Democratic Congress passed a measure halving student loan interest rates.  That law is sunshining now and needs to be repassed to ensure that college loan rates don't double.

The Republicans, as usual, insist that this be done only by cutting spending from other programs.  (Despite that the federal government can borrow money at nearly 0% interest).  Democrats wanted to pay for this by cancelling billions of dollars in subsidies to OIL COMPANIES.  Super-rich, highly profitable OIL COMPANIES.

That's not how the Republican House went.
Unfortunately, rather than finding common ground on a way to pay for this critical policy, H.R. 4628 includes an attempt to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund, created to help prevent disease, detect it early, and manage conditions before they become severe. Women, in particular, will benefit from this Prevention Fund, which would provide for hundreds of thousands of screenings for breast and cervical cancer.  Link
Yes, Republicans passed a resolution that would pay to help young people go to college by cutting a fund that provides for women's healthcare.  It also provides funds for children's vaccinations.

But there is NO Republican war on women. That’s the important thing to remember.
