Lefty Update (fin)
In the fall I posted a few times about chronic pain in my right forearm and the medical efforts I was making to heal. But I didn't follow up. Consider that corrected.
I wore the right wrist brace for about five months. I stopped wearing it 24/7 in early March, wore it only at night for a couple of weeks and then stopped altogether. It did what it was supposed to do.
I've pretty much regained full use of my right hand. I'm still aware of some pain in the tendons in my right elbow and if I overuse the arm, it bothers me. But when I first went in for physical therapy I could barely squeeze my hand into a fist and now I can do that without any pain.
I've been looking for a compression elbow wrap for several weeks to keep a little bit of pressure on the elbow and I found one just last night at Modell's Sporting Goods. Score! It's thin and unobtrusive so I can wear it undetected. I'm hoping it will allow just a bit more healing.
Interestingly, over the past several months I have definitely improved the dexterity of my left hand. I still tend to use it when I'm doing something like opening a door, squeezing a plastic bottle or unscrewing a jar. I still keep my money and wallet in my left pockets. That seemed really weird at first, but I'm totally used to it now.
So the wrist brace was a big success. No further extraordinary measures are necessary. I'll probably be aware of the issue for years to come, but hopefully, with the knowledge I've gained, I'll not go through that again.
