Out of Touch

Mitt Romney said this today:
Actually, we had health care in America before Obamacare came along. And we still have health care in America…Each of us today in America has a choice of the type of health care plan we might choose. People who are poor are able to get Medicaid, which is a government support effort for those who can’t afford to have insurance. And these things aren’t going to disappear without Obamacare.
This is just ridiculously out of touch with reality. Yes, we had healthcare before Obamacare and it left millions of Americans uninsured and without a medical safety net. There are millions of Americans who have never had a choice in the type of health care plan they might choose because they had a pre-existing condition and were not eligible to be insured or they just couldn’t afford it. Believe it or not, Mr. Romney, tens of millions of Americans who are not eligible for Medicaid can’t afford to purchase insurance and aren’t covered by their jobs. That’s kind of the whole point of the Affordable Care Act.

Obamacare is already making it so those with pre-existing conditions can’t be turned down, and when the insurance exchanges come on-line, tens of millions more will have access to affordable coverage. Oh, but I forgot, America already had the best healthcare system in the world. ::rolleyes::
