Elections have consequences

I live in a reliably Blue state which means we usually have progressive policies and rational government. Maryland was the first state in which voters approved same-sex marriage, after all.

Unfortunately, to my shame, this past November we elected Larry Hogan, the Republican candidate for governor. He wasted no time enacting his regressive policies.

Within FOUR HOURS of being inaugurated, he rescinded environmental protections for the Chesapeake Bay, because who needs that watery, crab-filled thing? He also stopped regulations limiting pollution from coal power plants, that the coal plants HAD ALREADY AGREED TO. And just to prove his conservative bona fides, he also killed regulations designed to protect LGBT people from discrimination, because why not?

Getting rid of the pollution controls will actually cost the state money, so any argument for fiscal responsibility fails. Killing the LGBT regs might not have any economic impact, he was just proving he's a douchebag.
