America is a minority-run country. The majority of our citizens have little say in how we're governed. The current President was elected by a minority of voters. The Senate is run by states that represent a minority of voters. The Supreme Court is controlled by Justices appointed by Presidents and confirmed by Senators elected by a minority of voters.
Five of the six conservative justices—a majority of the Supreme Court—have been confirmed by senates with Republican majorities that represented fewer Americans than their corresponding Democratic minorities.
Further underscoring this development, three of those five justices—Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh—were appointed by a president who lost the popular vote, while the other two—John Roberts and Samuel Alito—by a president who likewise lost the popular vote for his initial term and might never have become president without that Electoral College victory. Among the conservatives, only Clarence Thomas was both appointed by a president who won the popular vote and a Senate where the majority party represented more Americans. Link
For what's supposed to be the "greatest democracy in the world" this is unconscionable. It is wrong. If you think that Republicans are in the right to do what they've done to hold onto power, then you really can't say you believe in democracy.
Fortunately, we can start to change this next week by voting Republicans out of office. Then Democrats need to act strongly to correct this by passing anti-gerrymandering laws, enshrine voting rights into the law, making DC and Puerto Rico (who have NO representation) into states, and add Justices to the Supreme Court. It's right, it's fair and it must be done to make America an actual democracy again.
