A couple of weeks ago, I noticed something funny on our neighbor's roof. (Funny strange, not funny ha-ha). The house is behind us and down a level so the “funny” thing was easy for us to see but impossible for the neighbors. Here’s what I saw:
It appears to be a large tree branch, sticking out of their roof. You may notice that there are no branches supporting it in this odd position. You may also notice that there are no trees overhanging the roof. This raises three possibilities: (1) someone threw the branch javelin style and it stuck; (2) it’s growing out of their attic; or (3) it was carried from a neighboring tree by the wind.
We can immediately discount #1 as it’s a two story house, a big branch, and there are no Olympic javelinists, javeliners, uh, javelinistas(?) in the neighborhood. #2 is also ridiculous because it’s a huge frickin branch and unlikely to have pushed through the roof. Which leaves # 3 which is just remarkable. The wind had enough force to impale their roof with this big branch.
I spoke to our neighbors and found that they were unaware of this dagger in their side; they were as amazed as I was. Another week or two passed until, a few days ago, the branch was gone and a new patch of shingles is in its place.
I already miss it. You freakish javelinesque branch of impalely goodness.
