Elizabeth Sladen, aka Sarah Jane Smith, perhaps the quintessential companion of the Doctor from Doctor Who has died of cancer at age 63.
She was first the companion of Tom Baker's Doctor in the seventies and recently returned for several episodes with David Tennant's Doctor. She also starred in her own spinoff, the Sarah Jane Adventures. I'm pretty sure every Doctor Who fan from the seventies had a crush on her.
The scene where Tennant's Doctor encounters her always brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face, as does the scene later when she discovers the Tardis. Both can be seen here: Sarah Jane and the Doctor.
