Derp

On Monday morning, Mitt Romney continued his efforts to derail calls for him to release his tax returns LIKE EVERY OTHER PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE OVER THE PAST FORTY YEARS.

And in doing so, he may have made the most inane, stupid, irrelevant argument in modern Presidential history.
John Kerry ran for president. You know, his wife, who has hundreds of millions of dollars, she never released her tax returns. Somehow this wasn't an issue.  Link
Yes, Mitt.  John Kerry's WIFE.  As in, someone who was NOT John Kerry.  You know, the woman who WASN'T RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.  John Kerry himself released twenty years worth of returns.  That's nineteen more than you've released.

And of course, it doesn't stop with Kerry's wife!  There are other people who suspiciously didn't release their returns when Kerry ran for President.  C. Montgomery Burns didn't release his tax returns!  Neither did Scrooge McDuck!  And Richie Rich has never released any returns.  And yet somehow that wasn't an issue.

Try harder, Mitt.

Come to think of it, you haven't released your tax returns either.

What are you hiding?!

Uh-oh.

Hey, look over there!

Isn't it also likely that he's hiding money from the IRS, too? Even if he did release his returns, they're probably not even an accurate account of his true wealth/evil.

There’s really not much benefit to Romney for releasing his tax returns. It’s not like there are legions of people who’d vote for Romney if only his tax returns were clean.

Maybe not, but it's making him look really bad. And if it turns out that he paid zero income tax at some point, it kills him with many independents.
