MAJOR Difference

For those who say there's no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties, I give you this plank in the Democratic Platform:
“We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.”
“We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples. We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.
That's filled with awesome.

The Republican position would be to make marriage equality ILLEGAL in every state and nullify those gay marriages already performed.  Yes, they want to cancel the marriages of gays already married.

If you support gay rights, why would you ever vote for the Republicans?

This is what annoys me about people that consider themselves "leftists." They think that only major, radical change is significant. That's not the way life or politics work. Maintaining your ideological purity is great as far as feeling sanctiomonious but does not accomplish much.
