Lessons not learned

I'm not on Facebook but Carol is.  I was checking out some of the posts today and feel so bad for some of our conservative friends/acquaintances who are "devastated" about the results of the election.  They find it "incomprehensible" and are now wondering "whether the America they love still exists."

To them I say, "Yes, it's horrible that millions of Americans will now have access to affordable healthcare.  It's terrible that social security and medicaid will survive.  It's unbelievable that we're not going to transfer more money to the very wealthy.  It's incomprehensible that misogynistic, racist, homophobic idiots weren't elected to lead us."

The whining I saw was from very aggressive Christians and in addition to whining, they were also trying to see this as a test from God, hoping to use the experience to work harder for 2014.

Ya know what, folks?  Did it ever occur to you that maybe this wasn't a lesson to you from God?  Maybe God isn't actually on your side.  Maybe you lost because God is with those who want to make sure all Americans have proper healthcare.  Maybe God is with those who want to make sure that the poor are fed and all Americans have a place to live. Maybe God is with those who don't believe that everyone should have a gun under their pillow or that we should kill Iranians.

Did that ever occur to you?

I've been seeing the same thing from a lot of my conservative contacts. I also found a newspaper in the break room at work, announcing Obama's victory, and someone had written "God help us all" above the headline. I'm no fan of Obama, but this "end of America" stuff is just plain silly.

Before the election, a co-worker of mine actually told me that he prays for a civil war. I can't fathom being a believer in prayer and praying for something so awful. After the election he says he will be attending militia training!

Conservatives are pretty butt hurt now, and you can't reason with them. It is like they have been told there is no Santa Claus, no Jesus and Cracker Jack no longer has a toy surprise in it.
