The Walking Meh

The season premier of The Walking Dead is in 90 minutes and I'm at a crossroads. I've watched the show since the beginning and enjoyed the acting and storytelling so far. It's a bleak show portraying a very bleak zombie apocalypse, but I like the characters and the world-building.

Last Spring, the previous season ended on a cliffhanger. The new big bad guy, Negan, has caught most of the main cast and is about to kill one of them with a barbed-wire covered baseball bat to the side of the head. We know it's going to happen but don't know for sure which character is going to die. (I'm betting Glen. He's the one who gets batted in the graphic novels.)

But why do I want to see this? Why am I waiting months just to watch one of my favorite characters on the show get graphically and brutally murdered? The show is really just torture porn at this point.

So tonight may be the last episode I watch. I don't mind grim storylines (see Battlestar Galactica) but hopelessness and sadism isn't something I enjoy watching.
