COVID Relief

As we wait for Congress to pass a long-overdue $900 billion COVID relief bill, please remember a few things.

The House, controlled by Democrats, passed the $2.2 trillion CARES Act in March and an additional $3.4 trillion under the HEROES Act in May, which would have helped all sectors of the economy, including direct payments to hurting people and expanding unemployment funds. The Senate, under Mitch McConnell, never even considered either bill.

Now, Democrats want to provide $1,200 stimulus checks to people who make less than $75,000, which would help people afford rent, food, medical care; you know, things to help them survive. 100% of this money would be immediately injected into the economy as people spend it for necessities. Republicans have only agreed to $600 because now that there's a Democrat moving into the White House, deficits are once again important. This is three years after they gave away trillions of dollars to the rich, creating the biggest deficits in American history.

Republicans want to give businesses immunity from lawsuits so that their workers can't sue if their bosses deliberately endangered their lives or health during the pandemic. Democrats don't want to do this, because it's inhumane.

Democrats want to help state and local governments, many of whom are facing bankruptcy, because of the added costs of dealing with the pandemic. These costs are mainly because Trump left them to respond to the pandemic on their own, with little Federal assistance. Republicans refuse to allocate any money to the state or local governments because they think this will hurt blue states more than red states, or at least big cities, which contain lots of Democratic voters.

Please remember, especially Georgia voters who will decide on January 5 which party controls the Senate for the next two years, that one party is trying to HELP average Americans, to feed the hungry and house the soon-to-be homeless. The other party is arguing that deficits are more important than your family and trying to insulate big business from behavior that harms average Americans.

Oh, and for the past six weeks, Republicans have been attempting an incompetent, but very real, fascist coup attempt to keep Trump in office, even though he lost the election. So there's that too.

STOP VOTING FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KILL YOU.
