Next up on the wheel of hate, transgender people!

While Democrats in Congress are trying to pass legislation to rebuild America, create jobs and improve people's lives, Republicans, having no actual policy agenda of their own, have decided to go all in on the hate. This not only involves the usual attacks against black Americans through Jim Crow laws and  blowing dog whistles to encourage violence against blacks, they've also been targeting transgender people more aggressively and more publicly than usual.

This is hateful and appalling.

The Arkansas legislature on Monday became the latest state to pass harmful anti-transgender legislation this year, overwhelmingly supporting a new bill that would prohibit doctors from providing medically necessary treatment to trans kids.

The bill would prohibit doctors from providing minors with treatments including puberty blockers, hormone therapies or any transition procedures. Doctors who flout the law could lose their licenses and patients that have been receiving medical care would have it cut off immediately.  Link

The rightwing nutjob Governor of Arkansas actually vetoed this bill as "extreme", but the legislature overrode the veto. Because we wouldn't want to provide medically necessary treatments to vulnerable kids, now would we? As if transgender kids don't have enough bullshit to deal with every day. This law is cruel and unnecessary - like all acts of hatred.

And here's another tale of hate.

A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that an Ohio professor can sue a university for violating his constitutional rights after he was disciplined for refusing to use the preferred pronouns of a transgender student.

....

Meriwether did not have any students that the policy applied to until January 2018. But that semester, a student spoke to him after the first class and asked for their preferred pronouns to be used, according to the court's ruling.  The professor told the student that he wasn't sure he could comply due to his own beliefs, and the students allegedly got upset and filed a complaint against him, he said.  Link

If someone asks you to call them by a particular pronoun, it is the height of dickishness not to do so. You don't get to pick how other people want to be addressed, you stupid, narrow-minded prick. My beliefs suggest that I should call Professor Merriweather, Professor Merrifuckknob, but I wouldn't do it to his face. (I'm happy to do it here.) But that's because I'm not a huge douchebag and I try to be thoughtful and polite, even to hateful morons who need a serious lesson in how to be a decent human being.

These examples are already nearly a couple weeks old. I'm sure there have been many more incidents of Republicans moving against this vulnerable minority over that time.

Oh, look. I'm right.
