Ohhhhh . . .

Okay, I'm embarrassed. I thought that John McCain had selected Michael Palin to be his running mate. It was an unexpected choice to be sure, but I was okay with it.

I've been told, however, that he instead has nominated Tina Fey lookalike, Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska. She's been Governor for a whole two years and was the Mayor of a town of 8000 before that. She's also a creationist, denies any human role in global warming, and anti-gay. And she named her youngest son, "Trig Paxon Van Palin". Trig? Paxon?

Sounds like she's more than prepared to take over the United States should anything happen to the 72 year old Cancer-survivor McCain. And what are the odds that anything would happen to McCain? They're at least 50/50 that he'll be able to serve out his Presidency with no catastrophic health problems, so why should we be concerned?

Here's what Sarah Palin, Republican VP nominee, had to say to People magazine.
PEOPLE: Do you feel ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
SARAH: Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us.
Makes you kind of wish Dan Quayle was available. Yup, yup.

It's a very clear-cut choice.

OPTION #1: Little executive experience, might have to assume the duties of the President in 2011 or 2012 or so, in the event of an unforeseen tragedy.

OPTION #2: No executive experience, actually in the Oval Office as of January 2009.

You might want to realize that attacking Palin on experience is not the best play you can be making right now.

Palin has NO relevant experience. Not a whit. 20 months ago she was the mayor of a town with 8000 people.

Obama spent eight years as a State Senator and four years in the U.S. Senate. He has also run a superb national campaign over the past year.

There's no comparison.

McCain is 72 years old and has had cancer. He would be the oldest elected President in history. If you're not concerned that Palin could easily become President, you're just fooling yourself.

Conducting a campaign is somehow "relevant experience"?

In those years as a State Senator and a member of the U.S. Senate, Obama managed to put through one single piece of notable legislation. And that was a bill loaded with pork.

Palin does indeed have executive experience. She is, if you'll recall, governor of an entire state. That's something; and anything is more than Obama has.

And I will repeat my original assertion; little experience in the #2 position is much more tolerable than little experience in the #1 position.

Would I prefer her to be President? Of course not. But better a chance that she could be, than the certainty that Obama would be.

I dare say that running a national campaign for over a year with thousands of volunteers, raising more money than any candidate has ever raised, and overcoming a challenger who had a "lock" on the nomination is pretty significant experience.

In any event, being a Senator for four years is more significant than being governor of a state of 700,000 for less than 20 months. Obama represents millions of people.

Again, I'm shocked that someone with your interests would even consider voting for "no stem cell research" Republicans.
