Les Miserables

The Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre's performance of Les Miserables last night was one of the best non-Broadway shows I've ever seen. Of all the shows Rachel has been in, this easily had the strongest vocal cast. The two leads, the guys playing Jean Val Jean and Javert, were fantastic, playing two of the most difficult parts in any show. The costumes were nicely made and evocative, the set design really clever and the light and sound excellent.

The only thing the show was lacking was more Rachel.

Rachel was in the ensemble and played several characters throughout the show. She had a few solo singing lines, mostly during the second act song, Turning. As always, it's a pleasure to watch her on stage. This fall, Rachel will be a Junior, majoring in theatre, at James Madison University.

Here's a good review of the show.

I know what it's like to have a kid as a performer. Both of my kids like the stage. The younger one did some acting, but now both dance.

Our older daughter is currently at a ballet theater in Vermont--she's been there three weeks and will be there another three. Fortunately for us, they stream their Saturday shows on the web, so we can see her perform once a week.

Hey, I'm not gonna force you to watch my daughter dance, but if you go here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/50280575
she's the one who comes out at 10:15-ish. Of course, it's also possible they've taken down the video, since they don't leave them up long.

Sorry. I'm another proud dad.
