In which I prove my awesome psychic powers

One of my politically cynical friends believes that John McCain's predictable dive to the center will place him in close contention with Barack Obama to win the Presidency. My friend believes that this will be a close Presidential election.

I, on the other hand, believe that voters have had enough of the Republicans and McCain will not be able to distance himself from Bush's positions on issues like the war and the economy. I believe McCain, whom I once really admired, will look old and foolish next to Obama, and that will make a huge difference to many people.

So, here's my prediction, made on May 20, 2008, some five and a half months before the election. I am committed for all the world to see.

John McCain won't win more than a dozen states. And they'll probably be crappy ones, too.

Will my prediction humiliate me, vindicate me, or end up somewhere in that gray area that life seems to enjoy foisting on us rationalists? Stupid life.

I really hope this is true. But I also see interviews with people from West Virginia, saying they voted for Hillary because they're "scared of the other race" or they're "sick of the Hussein."

I thought people would be sick of the Republicans four years ago, too, and look what happened.

I hope you're right. I really do. But I also know that many, MANY people in this country are friggin' idiots.
