Indiana Jones and the Desperate Need for a Geology Tutor

"Legend says that a crystal skull was stolen from a mythical lost city in the Amazon, supposedly built out of solid gold, guarded by the living dead."
So says Indiana Jones in the theatrical trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Huh, says Ipecac. How can it be a CRYSTAL skull if it's built out of solid GOLD?

This does not bode well.

It’s built out of solid gold crystals.

I think he means that the city is built of solid gold...

How can the city be built out of anything? It’s mythical. :)

By gum, I think Rebecca is right! But it's poorly worded, I think.

But if the city is built out of solid gold, how does anyone get inside the buildings?

More like "Indiana Jones and The Desperate Need for an Editor." It's a run-on sentence and the modifier is misplaced. So it's easy to assume the skull would be solid gold, although I wouldn't think that a skull would be built.

And what's your authority for that, Miss Grammar? :-)

A solid gold skull makes more sense than a solid gold city.

I have ultimate authority as I am part of the Grammar Police and I have a solid gold skull.

LisaS, I was wondering how you would answer my question. Your response was far, far greater than I could have imagined. Well done.

(By the way, I presume you mean that you have a solid gold skull in your head, not that you own a solid gold skull that you might set on your desk.)

You presume right about the solid gold skull. In my head. Not on my desk (at least not at this time). Did you ever realize that your name could be Indiana Jones?

Think about it.

Yes. Bob wanted to name Rachel Indiana. She complains all the time because we didn't.

Sheesh, people. Can you say *anonymous* blog?

lisaS said...

Oops apparently not anymore.
