Well, I survived.
The concert, excuse me, the "Honda Civic Tour" was quite enjoyable, an impressive feat for an event organized by an automobile. We haven’t bought a car in seven years; they’ve obviously advanced quite a lot. We may have to buy a new car so it can take over doing our taxes.
Panic at the Disco was loud but very good, the Beatles’ influence being obvious in many of their songs. The other bands I labeled yesterday as "crappy" ranged from decent (Phantom Planet and Motion City Soundtrack) to really excellent (The Hush Sound). Since Rachel has two of The Hush Sound’s albums, I think I’ll be checking them out.
DAR Constitution Hall is a great venue. We were on the main floor about two-thirds of the way back. It looked like all the seats had good sight lines and the space was large but intimate. The complete lack of smoking was an awesome development in concert-going. I would enjoy seeing more shows there.
Since I didn't really care to watch the bands, I was free to sit in my seat and listen to the music and the crowd. My favorite part of live albums is the echoey sound of the crowd. The way the applause moves through the crowd, mixing with the first notes of a new song. It's even better in person. Last night I closed my eyes and just listened. I could feel the vibration of the music through the air. Through my feet on the floor. In my chest. Afterwards, I felt like I'd had a massage. At one point, Rachel looked over at me and said, "You're cool." I think she was mocking me.
So, I have to say that the night was a success. The girls enjoyed themselves, I enjoyed myself, we got in and out safely, the bands were all good enough, I had some nice moments immersed in sound and vibration and I am hopeful that one day my hearing will return.

I am also seeing this show (as you know). Sadly, our venue doesn't have reserved seats, but I purchased the VIP tickets through the fan club (Zoe's a big fan), which include early admission. She did not win the "meet and greet," but we will get to be pretty close to the action. Sadly again, it's a pit with a barrier, which means I and my cane will be standing the whole time. I may go out in the hall during the suckfest that is Motion City Soundtrack and sit down, though. I listened to about 8 of their songs, but swear I heard the same song 8 times. I do like Panic and Hush Sound quite a lot, though, and will be able to sing along to much of it. If Rachel called ME cool, she would be correct!
Ha ha...I have Rush tickets.
