We have several feeders, bird houses, and a bird bath on our front lawn. I love seeing the birds do their thing, including a flock of adorable tiny birds, some doves, blue jays, woodpeckers and cardinals. We also attract a number of squirrels (grr), one cute chipmunk, and some bunnies. I have a hummingbird feeder up, but it seems to do little business.
A few weeks ago I noticed a dark mass in our bird bath. It was a severed bird head. Poor little guy.
The murderer could have been a cat, but I think it was probably a hawk or an owl, both of which we have in the area. Fortunately, there have been no more victims since, at least that I've seen.
Circle of life and all that.
