Another sad chapter comes to light

Of the billions and billions of people who have ever lived, untold numbers have died horribly, in anonymity, forgotten by history.

Every so often, we learn of former atrocities against large numbers of people. Every so often, we learn that we Americans contributed to those atrocities.

US backed regime in Korea slaughtered thousands

With U.S. military officers sometimes present, and as North Korean invaders pushed down the peninsula, the southern army and police emptied South Korean prisons, lined up detainees and shot them in the head, dumping the bodies into hastily dug trenches. Others were thrown into abandoned mines or into the sea. Women and children were among those killed.
It's not surprising that human history is bloody. Likely all countries have similar incidents in their history. Whenever one of these incidents comes to light, it's vitally important that we remember, in the (perhaps vain) hope that we can keep it from happening again.
