Republican Congressperson Liz Cheney holds many vile, hateful political and personal positions. I would never vote for her or suggest she aspire to higher office. But she has been a true American patriot and statesman as the vice-chair on the Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection. She's doing a fantastic job and her very presence rebuts the lie that the Committee is a partisan witch-hunt.
If you haven't been watching the hearings, you should. They are excellently done, unlike most Congressional hearings, and without all the grandstanding and other nonsense the Republicans usually perform to disrupt the rule of law and serious inquiry. The two hearings so far have been factual, riveting, harrowing, and may be the last gasp of our Democracy in action.
I am hoping against hope that they're a wake up call for those who haven't been paying attention and a gateway to criminal charges for many people who planned and participated in an unsuccessful coup against the American people.
