Noooooo!

Pee Wee Herman is dead. I am hugely sad over this news.

I know his name was Paul Reubens, but he'll always be Pee Wee.

By chance, I've been watching the show Blacklist. Reubens had a few guest appearances as a character very unlike his persona.

I know he's Pee Wee, but he'll also always be The Spleen from Mystery Men to me.

I grew up on Pee-Wee as a kid and I am grateful for all of the things Paul Reubens has given us to the world. He also proved how awful news media can be after his 1991 arrest for doing something that I'm sure anyone who goes to a porno theater does. He did nothing wrong and the people didn't think so either. He ruled as Spleen and in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as he and Rutger Hauer I felt were the only people in that film that really understood the film altogether which allowed them not to take it seriously while everyone else in the film took it seriously.

You're both spot on. He was always compelling in whatever he did.

My favorite of his non-Pee Wee roles was the (anonymous) voice of Rex, the original droid pilot in the Disney ride, Star Tours. One time we were on the ride and Rex did something really close to the Pee Wee laugh and it clicked for me. I was actually pretty proud of myself for figuring it out. :-)

He was a good guy who made a lot of people laugh and smile. It's sad he's gone so soon.
